Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl (for microwave method)
  • Heatproof bowl (for double boiler method)
  • Small saucepan (for double boiler method)
  • Rubber spatula or spoon (for stirring)

Ingredients

1 to 2 cups chocolate chips (dark, milk, semi-sweet, or white)

Optional: ½ teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (for extra smoothness and shine)

Instructions

  • Microwave Method:
  • 1️⃣ Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
  • 2️⃣ Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir.
  • 3️⃣ Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until almost fully melted.
  • 4️⃣ Let sit for 1–2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until smooth.
  • Stovetop (Double Boiler) Method:
  • 1️⃣ Fill a saucepan with 1 inch of water and bring to a simmer.
  • 2️⃣ Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water.
  • 3️⃣ Add chocolate chips and stir occasionally until fully melted (about 4–6 minutes).
  • 4️⃣ Remove from heat and stir until completely smooth.

Notes

✔️ Avoid water exposure! Even a tiny drop can cause the chocolate to seize.
✔️ For a glossier finish, add ½ teaspoon coconut oil per 1 cup of chocolate chips before melting.
✔️ White chocolate burns easily! Use the stovetop method for best results.
✔️ Stop heating early. Residual heat will melt any remaining solid chocolate.
